Can anybody tell me about personal experinces with theses tangs. I had been admiring one of these fish at a different pet store but he was $35 dollars. A little guy to. I went to another fish looking for one these and I found him for $25. Right now I have him in a 55 gallon tank with about 60 pounds live rock and a yellow tail damsel.
Does this work. What else Can I add in a two weeks.

Funny thing is that in a book that I use as a refrence called Marine aquarist. It said they often get lodged into things. first thing he did was get stuck.

I can only speak from personal experience when it comes to the hippo tang. I was given a 2-3 inch hippo for my b-day to be put in my 55 gal. At the time it was awesome, the tank size seemed sufficient to accomodate him. But as he got around 5 inches, the size of the tank was too small for him to swim comfortably, hence stressing him out and making him more susceptible to disease. Sad to say he got HLLE and that's that.

As others will tell you as well, tangs need a lot of swimming space, I won't get into the actual tank size because it is dependent more on the length and space within the tank. I personally would not put a hippo in a 55 with LR. Keep in mind that my tank was a FO, so no LR to take up any space either. While its small, you may be able to keep it, but you'll either need to upgrade or get rid of it as it grows. JMO and experience. Good luck.
