I was wondering if anyone could tell me the needs of this paticular goby. All my searches have provided nil. :( I have one now, it was purchased under the understanding that it was a Steinizi Goby, which i did research on. Its even in the mini atlas as a Steinizi goby.(picture matches). thanks

James,
Try re-doing your search. You are not using the right common name.
Steinitz goby (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=Steinitz+Goby) should yield alot of positive results...

Steve, the Steinitz goby and the flagtail are two different species. The goby i have, which I thought was a Steinitz, is actually a flagtail.

Sorry James I misread the original post. I thought you where looking for info on the Steinitz goby.
You are right though, very little info on the flag-tail. What I was able to glean from the little info I could find is that it is a deeper water reef goby. It has much in common with other benthic gobies. It will also pair with pistol shrimp like other Amblyeleotris sp. or Stenogobius sp. gobies.
They are for the most part omnivores and will burrow and sift the sand. Quite peaceful unless their borrows are threatend and will not fair well with other similar species unless male/female pair. It will co-habitat with other reef fish quite well.
One note of caution. These types of gobies do not do well in tanks with wrasses. In most cases, larger wrasses will attack and kill them.

thanks for the info Steve. No wrasse's in my tanks, so mine should do ok. I wonder if the fish is rare, hence the lack of info on the net.

It may be that the goby is rare or just simply not sought after by aquariust. I find that many animals not commonly kept in the hobby lack reliable information.
Cheers
