My local lfs has a few of these. I looked all over and found a pic and a name and price. Though no info on keeping them. Lfs does not even know what they are. He has had them in his tank for some time now.
I believe they are called Orange Knobby Starfish.
Anyone know any basic about them?
Thanks!

not sure. the diet of this star is not documented. Ii would not get it to be safe. nearly all stars are not reef safe. only those of linkia and fromia genera may be considerd reef safe.[/i]

I would most stay a way from the chip kind (forgot name) star fish, very bad can destroy all kinds of corals

I found some info on it from SWF.com. Some of the people that have them say they are detrivores and can be considered reef safe.
Still going to do some research on them though.

I had one of these guys in my reef for about 5 months. I lost him in an extended power outage :x
I had no problem with him munching any soft or LPS corals (I didn't keep any SPS at the time). Actually I never saw him eating anything (left over food, dead creatures, algae) so I would assume he's a detrivore.
I never really took the time to find out what he was, which is strange as I usually dig persistently until I find out with most creatures.
Hope this helps.

Thanks all,
I picked him up today for 6 bucks at the lfs. He is doing great so far, but will keep an eye on him.
I have read all the technical stuff on him, but I feel that one has to also base thier reasoning on other peoples experiences.
Upon reading, it say they could be reef safe and then again might not be.
Upon reading quite a few peoples experiences on them, they seem to work out great in a reef, except for power outages...heh.
I guess time will tell, hope I didn't get a rouge star looking for trouble! hehe
He is about 4" across.

I grabbed him off a tape using Dazzle MovieStar. The program lets me take snapshots from videos.
I use my camcorder on my tank, then take pics off the footage. My digital camera is no good for tanks pics as it is auto focus. The camcorder lets me get closer and more focused pics.

"Snappy!" works the same way...a small device with software that captures footage from just about any video source...can work with composite, or s-video hookups...pretty cheap too!

Has anyone had any problems keeping brittle stars in a reef tank?

The 2 I have are doing great. I feed them peices of shrimp or squid.
Your water parameters have to be real good for starfish.
