I purchased a pinapple coral, was turquios in the picture from seller. The coral arrived at my house with no water in the bag, it must have gotten a hole. Well the coral turned white on top and brown on the bottom after a day in my tank. I informed the seller who stated the coral looked stressed out and also stated to leave it in the aquarium. Well it has been about a month and the white has creeped down one side. Now it is growing algae on it. Is this coral lost or could I possibly save it?
Here is a picture, sorry a hermit crab is on it.

It is not what I would call dead, but it's definately declining. I don't see signs of bacterial infection, so that's a plus.
You could attempt saving it by supplimenting it with foods. I would also turn the remaining healthy flesh upwards and in the direction facing the water flow. They do like decent water flow.
Feeding at night is best as they extend their tentacles quite a bit. Use the pop bottle (http://reeflounge.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=10423#10423) method for best reults and use finely minced raw seafood enriched with Selcon (http://www.jlaquatics.com/cgi-bin/shopping/jalstore.cgi?user_action=detail&catalogno=fd-sel60) or Zoe (http://www.jlaquatics.com/cgi-bin/shopping/jalstore.cgi?user_action=detail&catalogno=k-zm08).
You should be able to tell in a short time if it's showing improvement.
Cheers

the coral appears pretty far gone. as stev said, there doesn't seem to be any bacterial infection. i would place it in a low-level light area (e.g. shaded under a rock or cave.) also, if you happen to smell it, describe us the smell...it's a good indication of health.
best of luck!
