We'd like to try something new, a photo of the month contest. Let's play it by ear and see how it goes. If it goes well it could be a regular feature on the board. For this first installment the theme is "softies". If you have a picture of a soft coral that you would like to share please post it in this thread. I'm sure we have some spectacular looking corals out there. Post your best shots and we'll vote for the winner at the end of the month.

This is a great idea! I can't wait until I have some corals worth showing. I'm assuming its ok to take pics of stuff in other people's tanks, as long as you took the pic not someone else, right?

Also, not to be a pessimist and think so negatively of the human race, but any thoughts on how we can keep cheaters from simply finding and submitting a beautiful pic from some obscure website? Just a thought, but maybe you should require the shots to have a piece of paper with the member's screen name on it, for authenticity.

rather than take awy from the integrity of the image...i'd rather ask that original photos be uploaded on www.reeflounge.net/gallery and linked from there. if the photos have been post processed, that's fine. so long as the original is uploaded to rl.net with the original file info. that way we can assure that the file has been personally taken, as it lists the camera and phot properties.

example:

http://www.xboxclansynergy.com/gallery/POTM-example.jpg

does that sound fair?

kiknchikn
09-02-2006, 11:08 PM
Sure that sounds better than my idea, since a name on a piece of paper won't do too well in water and it'll be out of focus otherwise =P

as the original is uploaded to rl.net with the original file info
I'm OK with that as long as the gallery accepts huge files. My camera's macro mode takes photos up to 4 megs in jpg format lol...

phistio
09-02-2006, 11:28 PM
it can be uploaded as a thumbnail only, but still will have the camera properties.

i meant to quote you kikn...didn't mean to edit your post, my bad.

Oh OK, that makes sense. Again, I think this is a great idea. I look forward to trying my hand at photography.

Feel free to edit my posts all you want Phistio as long as you make them better ;)
