:? I recently set up my first saltwater tank. Everything is going well, so far! I have 3LBS of live rock, soon to add a couple more, and a mixture of about 6LBS of live sand and crushed coral. I'm using the filtration system and biowheel that comes with the tank setup but I also have a UG filter hooked up to a small powerhead. My only concern right now is the lighting. I wanted to get a 50/50 bulb to supply the correct spectrums for everything in the tank. I would ultimately like to have a number of inverts and corals, which need the actinic lighting. I've had no luck finding any bulbs that would fit the stock hood. Does anyone know where I can find a decent 50/50 bulb or retrokit to fit the hood? My other question is regarding iodine levels. Do many of you add additional iodine to your tanks? (stupid questions coming) What kind, how much and how often? Thanks!

Nothing needs the actinic light, we just use it so the tank doesn't have a yellow hue to it. Yes, I add iodine to my tank because I have shrimp. This helps with their molting cycle. Check www.ebay.com and search for Power Compact. Some hoods or retros should come up.

I've had the tank running for just over 2 weeks. I just got my first fish, a yellow tailed damsel. Prior to getting the fish I had been running the tank with the live rock and sand with the light on for about 10 hours a day. I never noticed any wide fluctuations in temp. After adding the damsel, along with about 4 more pounds of live rock I've noticed that the temp has been very high, 83-85F. I'm thinking it may be the light and I wasnt paying close enough attention to the tank prior to adding the fish. I was wondering if anyone else has had this with the Eclipse systems. The only other thing I can think of is that the powehead may be contributing to the heat in the tank. I haven't seen the heater on in days. Any suggestions/comments?? :?

actually...i too was thinking of buying an eclipse six to do my deepwter/darkwater tank...

i put some cold cathodes over an eclipse, and they were perfect...i put only four cathodes over the six, but i would suggest 6-8. these things take up no room...

it's my theory that you would be able to support a fairly wide array of corals with these cold cathodes. (with the exception of SPS...i haven't determined if it would be adequate enough yet).

if you're interested, i can put you in contact with a distributor for the lights!
