I purchased these mushrooms from my lfs and they only knew them as mushrooms. I have been unable to identify what kind of mushroom it is. I want to know to make sure I am properly caring for them.

I have attached a picture of one and will post another picture of the other. I actually have five-three I bought and two split into two more.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Basically a stripped mushroom (http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?siteid=22&pCatId=669). They come in wide varieties of colors....

I have found striped mushrooms to be the hardiest ones there is, plus they spread like crazy once they get settled in and happy.

Don't most mushrooms spread like crazy with exception to the giant shrooms.

My mushrooms didn't split till I added about 100 lbs of lr to the 30 lbs I had and when I added the ls instead of cc.

I think with the addition of the lr and ls they got what they wanted. I feed them phytoplankton but maybe it wasn't enough at the time.

Happy Reefing!!!

Greetings fellow reefers!

I have this feather duster starfish and mushroom coral. I feed em 1/2 capful of phytoplanktom every other day per instructions on the bottle.

Here is my problem.. ever since i started adding this Phytoplankton.. i get this green/yellowish film/algae(?) on tank. I scrub it off... but... it comes back just as fast!!!!

HELPPPPP Any suggestions???? Thank you :-)

personally i would stop dosing the phyto all together if it's causing a problem. a bit here and there would suffice, but neither the mushroom, or feather duster are highly dependant on phytoplankton in order to survive.

I agree with phisteo, the feather duster is a filter feeder which will grab food from the water collum.

i'd be willing to guess that they are sesscile snails, which act much like your feather dusters...they a suspension filter feeders, and quite beneficial to a reef.
