i have a 46 gallon bow with a yellow tang, speckled hawk, and skunk clown. I bought two peppermint shrimp to rid my tank of aptasia. Within 5 days i found a shrimp cocktail(like the ones you eat) and this shell below in my tank. Is this my hawk? he is only 2 1/2 inches long!!!!

what i wanted to ask was about my other pepp. shrimp! I came home and found half of him in the back of the tank, like hed been bitten in two. Did my hawk do this? My other fish are a yellow tang and a skunk clown.

I saw the shrimp's skin that you posted. If your shrimp is still there then it just shedded, because my shrimp shed's about every month. If the shrimp is no longer in your tank, then i don't know. The other shrimp might have eaten him.

can u pot a picture of the apparent 2 halfs of the shrimp. i have a feelin that the shrimp jus molted like the other did. chances are the wrasse will go after them sooner or latter but he wouldnt cut it in half and leave it alone he'll eat the whole thing jus about.

My money is on a molt as well.
Every other month, or so, I come home to find my Sally Light Foot deader than hell his claws, legs, and torso spread all over my tank.
My heart stops every time - until i see him with a bright and colorful new Exo. crawling around.
Yep, a Molt.

although, I never see my cleaner shrimp molt and he is getting huge.

Have fun

propper and higher iodine lvls are often needed for shrimp to molt then your average crab.

probably a molt. My shrimp molt and hide for a few days after. I think it takes alot out of them when they molt.

they hide after they molt simply cause theyve lost there hard exo skelton and have no defense now. when they regrown there hard shell that shwne they start comming out cause they feel safe again, jus as a nice trigger eats them.

I have to reply to this, because I have a domino damsel and I added 2 peppermint shrimp today. When I returned home I found one left it's skin on the floor.. only I thought it was his dead colorless body until I spotted him cleaning the glass while the other hid in a rock. :D haha, I was so upset for awhile... err a few mins until I saw them both.

i agree with cobra, the shrimp hide after they shed, because they dont have anyprotection, because there exoskeleton hasnt hardend
