I have a pair of harlequin shrimp one blue (female) and one pink (male). They have been in my tank now for 3 months. They are very happy with the diet of chocolate chip stars. No other stars have been offered. Anyways one of them has been seen with a bunch of reddish eggs underneath. I saw her playing with them, or feeding them. How can i try to raise these little mucks? Any special foods? Do i need to take them out of the tank (really do not want to do) PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I can't tell you how to raise them...only that that happened with our harlequin pair in our 10g tank at work. She carried them for a LONG time...seemed like months. We kept waiting for something to happen...but the tank is kept at work...and we don't have the setup there for a separation tank. Now they are gone. I'm sure they matured and something else in the tank ate them when she let them go. Shortly after, both harlequins died. I hope you have better luck...if you have anything else in that tank which you suspect might prey on those eggs...I would separate her.

If it isn't broke, then don't fix it. continue to offer the chocolate chip stars, which are high in protein and other essential vitamins needed by the shrimp. And, if the eggs develop and some become fully mature, I would love to buy them all from you for an experiment I am trying to set up in one of my enclosed systems.

from what ive read, breeding shrimp seems to be really difficult. but the only two conclusions i could come too through all my searching to try and raise some skunk cleaner shrimp eggs i only found two methods that people had success with... having a tank, QT or somthing with no filtration or water movement. The guy that showed me this was from vietnam and had been keeping fish and stuff all his life. The filtration will suck the eggs larvae .. etc.. up, fish and other inhabitants will eat the eggs, so thats why he would stick the pair in the tank, but i moved before i could see if the eggs hatched, or if the small shrimp lived.. the other thing is called a crisel or somthing to that affect.. i cant remember how to spell it

a kreisel tank is the only way to successfully breed shrimp.
