Thinking of adding live rock to the sump for a couple of reasons:

1) dark, so should be different populations of life and more diversity
2) would help quiet the water flow in the inflow portion of the sump

I've heard conflicting opinions on this and am looking for more info...

Is it true that LR in the sump acts like bio-media since the O2 levels are so high (especially given that some of the rock would be above water, but always wet)? I'd heard that because of this nitrates would go up. I've also heard the opposite, that since the anaerobic bacteria live so deep in the crevices, that the O2 doesn't get to them. Anybody know of hard data in this area? At least objective evidence of what happens to nitrates would be nice...

Thanks
