Hi gang,

New saltwater aquarium (25 gallon), cycled with damsels (now removed). I have a lawnmower blenny, a royal gramma and a tank-raised clownfish in the tank for nearly a month now (with a small live rock) and a few fake plants.

I would like to add one more small fish to complete this setup but can't decide on a hardy, easygoing fish that will coexist with the others. Any suggestions?

To be honest, I really like the look of the damsels (especially the striped variety) but according to the rest of the world, adding even one of those now would not be a good idea :(.

Any input much appreciated!

Welcome to Reeflounge Jeff! :-D

I personally think your tank is at a good stocking level as it is. You wouldn't want to overstock a tank, esspecially of that water volume. Your current fish will grow, and when they grow, they will be taking up more space, and adding a larger amount of biological load. If you had to buy another fish (Which I do not recommend), I would recommend a small gobie such as a Fire Fish Goby (Nemateleotris magnifica). These are very colorful, and fairly hardy.

If you insist on another fish, I recommend a neon gobie. They have little or no impact on the bio load. Very entertaining also.

PH I would not insist on a firefish. The gramma will eventually kill the firefish. Situation A: Firefish comes out and gramma harasses it. B: Firefish doesn't come out and starves.

From my experiences with keeping a Gramma and a Firefish, I had no aggression at all. Everything was fine. Although this was in an 80 gallon tank, so I couldn't forsee what would happen in only 25 gallons of water.

Thanks for the help guys! I was looking at the tank and came to the realization that I was probably well stocked as is so no new fish will be added.

I was thinking perhaps a small shrimp or small crab perhaps.

At any rate, thanks again for your replies!

I have a fire fish and a royal gramma and no issues of fighting or aggression. Both are also in a QT of only 20gallons with two other fish.

However I do agree you probally shouldn't had anymore fish.

Happy Reefing.
