The other day I did a water change to reduce some nitrates. A couple of days later i had some out of town guests so I turned the lights on early and left them on until the timers shut them off. That night before the lights went out I looked at the tank and noticed that my carpet anemone (hadoni) had this milky white substance coming out of it. It was not brown like it was expelling it zooxanthellae. Could it be possible that I witnessed my anemone spawing? If so will the spawn cause any problems with water quality or the health of the fish? My LFS said it may be getting ready to split but I have never heard of a carpet anemone splitting in captivity.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that Carpet Anemones just split like any other anemone.

According to this (pg 19 under "there's something coming out of its mouth) they do. I had never heard of them doing this in captivity either but when I saw that stuff I could not think of anything else that it could be. I had no idea my tank was that healthy!! HA HA!!
