I have not been able to identify these small red/brown things on my new piece of live rock. They have very fine hairs at the top that seem a bit thin to be an anemone but I am new to the marine hobby. Their base is tube shaped and fairly short. The largest one is about 1/8 inch in diameter and the other is about 1/16 inch in diameter. Being new to the hobby I am wondering if they are Aptasia. I have not been able to find any photos of small forms of aptasia. See the photo. Thanks!

From the description you gave me it should be some type of polyp. Don't be alarmed.

I have something like that, but when I touch it it's almost rubbery. Definately kind of hard. Would this still be a polyp?

I would say yes, when you touch it does it secrete this slipperly fluid on you?

Damn, to tell the truth I've done some heavy reordering of the rock and now I can't find it.

Oh well, I've got my new lights now (400w!!!!) and my refugium complete with macro algae, it's time to buy some corals..

I think he does ave an annenome of some sort I have seen a few of these in my tank. If it is what I have they are def an annenome the pic looks like exactly what I have. The ones in my tank almost never move and they have little balls on there tenticles when they open. they are the same color when they are closed as his mine look exactly like his second pic when they are closed. If they are what I have they seem to be harmless and mine dont seem to multiply so I dont think they are aptasia also they dont look like aptasi either. Just my two cents plz dont call me an idiot.

The tips of the tentacles on mine have little balls too that are either a paste white or clear. I seem to have a total of three and they are stationary so far. I still have had no luck at finding a photo on the web.

Whoot well I think I was right. Polyps come in many sizes. Maybe it isn't fully grown yet.

This photo is much better as I marked the objects in question and it is not as blurry.

I also hope to get an ID on another reef critter(s) that is on the top of the photo.

Thanks for all of the help!
