Looking to buy a reef ready tank package and there are none to be found in any of the aquarium/pet stores in the area. I was wondering if anyone knows of any websites/mail order places that have good deals on reef ready packages. Thanks in advance.

If you want an acrylic tank you can try
http://www.tropicalfishstore.com/
That's where I got mine, and they were pretty good. There may be better deals out there, but that's a place to start. They have no glass tanks tho.

you can check out
http://www.petswarehouse.com/aquacart/aquariums.htm
they are located in Long Island. You can either order online and have them ship to you, or what i recommend is you stop by one of their stores and see the actual tank you are buying to make sure the size is good for you. and if you have a truck or large vehicle you can save a couple 100 bucks by picking it up :)
Ebay might be a good place, if you find a seller close to you, but I would buy from a local place that has the tank in stock.
Either way good luck and keep us informed with what you get.
What size tank you looking for?

thanks for the advice matrix. I am not sure what size I will be getting. I am moving soon and don't know the space that i am going to have available. Ideally i would like a tank approx. 90 gallons, but would be willing to settle for a tank closer to 75 gallons. I will keep you posted on what i find. thanks again.

Why would one choose an acrylic tank? The lighter part sounds good. How much do they go for, say 75 gallons?

advantages: Slightly stronger, slightly clearer, easier to drill, lighter, scratches can be polished out, more shapes available
disadvantages: easier to scratch, harder to repair leaks (though less likely to occur), coralline algae has a definite affinity for acrylic
price:variable of course.
some examples 75gal tank only $364; reef package $1031 (pumps sump etc)
90gal $467; reef pkg $1192
prices from tropicalfishstore.com
lots of other places though.

I have owned glass and acrylic. I currently own acrylic. If I upgrade I will definatly go back to glass. If you have good floors the wieght thing is usually not a issue except when moving the tank and hopefully that is not something you will be doing often especially with a reef. The reason I like glass better is two reasons, scratches and coralline. They are much easier to scratch, I mean if you barely bump a rock against them they scratch as where this wont happen with glass. Plus the coralline grows like crazy on acrylic making it much harder to keep the front of your tank clean. Belive me, it is a major pain that frustrates me. Seeings how these days it is really easy to pick up reef ready glass tanks in several custom shapes such as bowfront, I dont know why everyone doesnt go with glass. And as far as clarity goes, I dont think it is enough to make it a good trade off.
Just my 2 cents.
Check out www.captivereefs.com They carry the aqua medic tanks that are truly awsome. They come with evrything you need. They also have a good selection of acyrlic tanks as well
