my dad is breaking down his 29g freshwater tank and I was thinking of using it to breed clownfish. Is this a good size tank? I was thinking of getting a hang on the back filter . I was also wondering what kind of lighting for an anemone and what kind of anemone? I want to do Clark's Anemonefish. Im also will put a 10g rearing tank up with an air pump connected to an airline w/o an airstone for current. Any info would be great.

Here is a site that will help you understand what you will have to go through.

I had checked out that site before and I know a little about how to take care of the baby clowns. I was more wondering like what kind of anemone should I use?

A bta, or a lta would be fine.

I was also wondering about how to set the tank up to make it less stressful. Should I keep the undergravel filter or will it just cause problems? (I am going to put a hang on the back wet/dry filter) How much lr and how deep of a sandbed? How much lighting does an aneomone need and will I need to change the hood on the tank because it is only a one strip light bulb? Any info would be a big help.

In my experience clarkii clownfish breed very well when a large aptaisia anemone is provided. they young grow much faster the parents breed more often and there is a better suvival rate for the young when they have an aptaisia anemone.

ok....
i've nearly had enough...
can you please back up your statements igotworms?
futhermore, going back to the original question, LTA's seem to work well for clarkii's, skunk, and cinnamon clowns. however, the proper lighting (MH's) also must be provided. however, to breed them, no anemone is actually "needed". just a bare bottom tank, and a place to brood the fry. many breeders use PVC, as well as broken pottery.

Thanks for the responses! Is there an anemone that might work with just good flourescent lighting. I was planning on using a coralife light. I have a very low budget. Could I have an anemone and use pvc pipe and a bare bottom for more chances?

LTA's (Long Tenticle Anemone) do well with lower light levels.

IMO, i can't responsibly reccomend that any anemone be kept under N.O. flourescent lighting.

Likewise, though the LTA would live and still live/thrive with feedings to supplement its diet due to less light power. I would say, feedings of Krill or Littleneck Clams every 2 days with N.O. lights.
Even on a tight budget you can afford PC lighting. That would bring your lighting up to a suffecient level and still not break your pocket book. This would be my best recomendation if you want to keep an anemone. I can also provide you with the lighting system at a lower cost directly to you from PFO then anyone online basicly.

29g tank
Pair of Clarkii Clownfish
Hang on Back filter
Power heads for current
Bare bottom
tile or flowerpot
Couple of live rock chunks
10g rearing tank with an air pump for current
What should i do for lighting if im not going to put an anemone in?

Yeah, i'm starting to breed clarkii's and u really don't need an anemone so badly. But what's great about clarkii's is there abilitay to host with alomost any anemone. I just have a FOWLR tank and my clarkii's are becoming a mated pair. my clowns also adopted a piece of live rock fro thier "anemone"
