Ok my question is if it's possible to get the same/similar degree of fluorescence from an actinic PC than is obtained from an actinic VHO?

At my LFS, I loved how the VHO's brought out the fluorescence in a lot of the mushrooms and softies, but on the tanks with the one daylight and one actinic PC, it seemed like the daylight diluted the "blueness" of the actinic bulb. Can anyone clarfiy for this for me? Thanks.

The higher Kelven rating, the bluer the bulb. The bluer the bulb, the more the colors really stand out.

The daylight I am guessing is a 6, 500k. The daylight evens out the Actinic into looking like a crisp white. For example, if you have a "03" actinic on an aquarium, and then added a 6, 500k bulb (much more yellow), the total kelven would even out to around a 10,000k- a crisp white.

The reason you're not seeing the bright florecent colors is most likely because they are using a daylight suppliment on the PC's, or the kelven rating is lower than the VHO's. Hope this answers your question.

Thanks for the response PH.

So just to make sure I understand what your saying. So if I go with PC's and use a "03" along with a daylight of 10,000k, then I would get more of the"blue" than if I use an "03" with a 6,500k daylight. Right?

Also on a side note, just to clarify. The "03's" are considered true actinic right? So an actinic with 7100k (like those on hellolights.com) would not be as blue in color? Thanks for the help.
