I have question, is it possible to make a venturi valve out of pvc fittings. if so what size pipe would I need for dolphin 800 pump?

thanks Chris

sure, it's possible, but in my opinion, it would be more cost efficient to use nylon tubing...

what's would be the reason to want a rigid venturi?

Could you please explain nylon tubing for a venturi valve. I 'm not sure I understand what you mean by using nylon tubing. How do your get the air introduced into the valve.

Thanks for your reply.

the venturi is for a skimmer, yes? i'm just wondering why you would want to have a rigid PVC for air induction...a tube would do the same thing...

Yes you mean use a tube to hook up the air to, but I'm talking about the body of the valve. If thats what your talking about I don't understand what you mean. Yes This is for a skimmer.

Thanks

Chris

first a few quick links for viewers to see the dolphin 800...

http://www.marineandreef.com/Info/Dolphin800perform.html

1" Hose Barb or 3/4" FPT inlet and a 3/4" Hose Barb or 1/2" FPT outlet

(this is the 560..but nearly the same)

i don't see a problem with using PVC for the intake manifold...the only point i was bringing up is that to use PVC, the joints will have to be (or rather should be) sealed with "plumber's PVC glue" and i don't know if that stuff is "reef safe"...which is why i personally would just use 1" nulon flexible tubing. and it's my theory that it would be more cost effective (altough we're only talking about $10 difference...)

so, no, i don't think it would be a problem to have a rigid PVC plumbed for the intake, but personally i would just hang a piece of flexible tube, and bell housing out the back of the sump...but it makes no difference really.

does that help? :|

phistio,

:D Sounds like a good Idea, if possible could you draw a diagram, just so we would be on the same page.

Thanks
