i have a large colt coral so i decided to divide it. tonight i took a large piece and cut it off, then glued it to a piece of l.r. i never realised that colts have a skeletal system in it. anyways did i propagate this right?

I have fragged my sinularia many times over the yrs. big and small branches. never tried gluing them though. heard they dont take well to gluing. i attach mine with a rubber band. works very well for me. 8)

My Nepthea propagates by itself. A small branch will fall off attach to another rock and it will be 3 inches tall in a couple weeks. I have given some of them away to friends lately.

A kenya tree or colt can be fragged by cutting it off with a SHARP stainless steel scissors, then you stick a toothpick through about 1/2" from the very bottom, and wrap a doubled rubber band under the rock and hook the loops to each end of the toothpick. Once the base attaches about 2-3 weeks later, you can cut off the toothpick on one end and carefully pull it out. The hole will heal in 1-2 days. This works well. Glue can let go, and rubber bands can slowly cut the coral if too tight. Both do work. I figured this one out when I fragged my sarcophyton (toadstool) and glue would hold it for 2 days on average and it would fall off.

To frag my colts I either wedge or rubberband a small rock next to the base of one of the colt branches. After two to three weeks the branch will be firmly attached to the new rock. At that point I razorblade the branch off from the parent colony. Instant frag. I let this grow out for about 3 to 3 more weeks before trading it off/giving it away. I use this method due to too many lost colt frags with the other methods I've tried which involve cutting the coral, and then trying to get it to attach. (I'm not saying they don't work, just that they didn't work regularly enough for me to depend on. I could very well not be executing these other methods correctly).
