Hey all, I just replaced both of my filters and membrane and I am getting about .1-.2 phosphates out of my RO. The RO came with a 24gpd membrane and I put a 50gpd in....does that matter?
Also I replaced the ?? micron filters in there with .5 micron filters...does that make a differance?
I have ran the unit for about two hours now, I'm guessing it should be flushed out....
What oh What do I do...have any of you guys had this problem?
P.S. the RO unit is a CoralLife.
i am no expert in this..but from what i have read..RO/DI removes phosphate...its the DI that removes it.

I am quite sure that he is aware of that, the problem is he wants to know what is wrong with his unit. (lol, I said 'unit')

accually I wasn't aware of the DI being the part that removed the phosphate. I have been thinking about adding one on.
I am new to this RO thing and havn't read nearly what I should on it.
So adding the DI to my RO will remove the phosphate?
I guess I won't be so worried about it after I get my denitrifier fired up and running, but until then....

This is not accurate. RO filtering does remove phosphate, but whether RO or DI it only removes a percentage. It is quite possible the tap water you are starting with is very high in phosphate. I would test the source water and then double check the test kit.

You should also make certain the membrane is fully seated, place the end against a wall and push till it won't go any further. Provided the membrane fits properly in the housing...it shouldn't be a problem to switch to 50gpd membrane.

Oh, I thought the whole RO/DI thing was sold as a complete unit rather than seperate components. Guess that is what I get for making assumptions.
Thanks for the correction!

Most are, these days...but you can purchase the components seperate as well. Although I'd be willing to bet that for reefers a good 90% of the units sold are RO/DI combo
