Whats the deal with sea fans? I see them everynow and then at the LFS I have tried to keep one awhile back but It would only come out at night and lasted for a couple of months.. I have been looking at a ton of tanks on the net and alot of diffrent corals and havnt seen one of the Sea Fans or flat trees as I call them... Any info on them? I woould like to keep one now that I kinda know what im doing..lol

Sea Fans are hard to keep. Usually most "Flat Trees" do have photosynthic cells that they will use for a main food source. Others, do not use the zooxanthellae, and will feed only on plankton. I would have a fairly esstablished tank before attempting to keep one of these. IMO, they prefer harder currents, and medium lighting. Non photosynthic gorgonians, are known from dying from too much lighting. These usually have white polyps, and are extremely sensitive to algea, which is known for cutting off the circulation in the polyps. I would buy a "Sea Whip" Gorgonian first (these are almost entirely photosynthic, and are the easiest to keep (IMO)) and move on from there. Others, such as the Sea Fan usually tend to be harder to keep. I would give it lots of current, medium amounts of lighting, and I would also highly recommend that you blast it with plankton every so often.
PH =)
I agree with the planton part well I mean everything especially the plankton part!! :D very important imo
