hood means where the lights are kept. Like my old lighting was in a hood a meatal one . is that what you mean?

Unicornis, don't worry about being a nuissance. About the only dumb question is the one not asked. If someone doesn't like your question then they don't have to reply to it. A hood is generally where the lights are kept, but some systems have filtration built into the hood as well.

In the pictures the thing on top of the tank is the hood.
