I'm very frustrated at the moment with my new wet/dry. I have the SL 150 Amiricle with a Rio 2100 return pump. Anyone know how to quit down the over flow sound?

Thank you very much. What a bad first post hugh?

First I have a few questions for u.

1. Do u have a shut-off valve on your return to control the flow?

2. On your prefilter return do u have a shut-off valve?

3. How long have u had the overflow on your tank?

4. On your prefilter for the overflow do u have a center piece that u can move up and down?

I know that these are alot of questions but I have the same overflow and I had these same problems.

You could buy some soundproofing material. I'm pretty sure that they sell it at most hardware stores. I have heard of people having a lot of success with soundproofing material. It seems like it should be pretty cheap and easy to do. Just line the inside of your stand with it and the noise should be greatly reduced.

No, I drilled a hole in the return pipe just below water level (old school, but works)
2. On your prefilter return do u have a shut-off valve?
No
3. How long have u had the overflow on your tank?
Two weeks
4. On your prefilter for the overflow do u have a center piece that u can move up and down?
No, should I?

Use a Durso overflow (DIY) to quiet the overflow part http://www.rl180reef.com/pages/standpipe/standpipe_frame.htm
Pipe your return so it is submerged in the sump to quiet that area. I can hardly hear mine. If you are bothered by the rushing sound in the pipe, use hard pvc to pipe your overflow to your sump. If you do these three things you can have your tank in your bedroom and barely hear it.

Life is good now. My wife and I are both happy with the noise level. We can enjoy our Paradigm speakers to their potential. Brad had a great idea and I'm sure it would have worked on my tank. I ended up going with http://www.rl180reef.com/pages/standpipe/standpipe_frame.htm
for my solution. It was really easy and cheap to do. Thanks anemoneman. I can tell this site is going to be a great form of information.

Yes. I have two of them on my tank. http://home.attbi.com/~anemoneman/quiet_overflow.jpg I used the modified design - more compact.

Thanks anemoneman. I can tell this site is going to be a great form of information.
You are very welcome.
