Can anyone tell me how far below the water surface a standpipe should be set in a reef ready tank

When you turn off the pump, doesnt all that water drain into the sump? 10" of water is 30 gal. in a 72 gal tank!

10" below the surface behind a partitioned overflow is only 5 or so gallons....but the water level in the overflow will only be to the top of the standpipe max. Probably only an inch or so from the bottom of the tank. Thing of your overflow as a tank within a tank.

Yeah...AGA did that in an effort to pull water from the bottom as well. It works too...for awhile...until the slots get clogged with algae slime and detritus. Easy enough to clean in a fish only, but if got a hundred lbs of rock or so stacked in front of it.... :?

Yeah, I've done that to clean out the space between the two partitions...but when I had my AGA drilled aquarium, the LR was stacked against the overflow as well as the sides and the back of the tank. Not real sure it the pipe brush was long enough to clean the intake slots at the bottom of the overflow http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/q/confused.gif
