Anyone out there has recommendation on what kind of corals to keep in my tank, how many and what types of fish. Just to let you know I am new to a reef tank system. My tank has been running for 1 month and here's what I have.

60 Gallon tank
Berlin Turbo protein skimmer
30 gallon sump
80 pounds of live rock. Some fiji and some marshall.
4 VHO URL lights w/ ICE Cap 660
1700 Rio powerhead
40lps live sand Mixed with 20lbs crushed coral

Use a few mushrooms towards the bottom, a few softies towards the middle, and a few LPS and SPS towards the top......that is just my opinion and I am sure several people will either disagree or have different ideas but that would make the tank look nice.

I both disagree, and agree.

The tank is way too young to be housing SPS and LPS, while it would look good.

I would start out with some corals that you will be wanting throughout your hobby. Don't buy anything that you won't want in another year or two. Mushrooms are one idea, although some people have them grow like crazy, and they can sting other corals. Xenia can be another nice starter coral, but will require good alk, pH, temp, and salinity levels to thrive and grow. Once it grows, there's no stopping it! Zooanthids are always nice, hardy, but some can be expensive. Button polyps, and most other colonial polyps will be good (Green star polyps [grows fast], yellow polyps, etc., all exept the 'Sun Polyps' AKA Tubestrea coral polyp).

As far as soft corals goes, some leathers, colts, etc., will be fine in your tank. Most will sting neighboring corals, esspecielly stonies.

LPS and SPS should wait. Hardy LPS, such as the Bubble, Hammer, torch, frogspawn, and so on should be added around 3 months. Then you can move down from there.

SPS should not be any issue, as I wouldn't try to keep them in the long run without halide lighting. Around 7 months, you can keep some low-light SPS corals at the top of your tank. This includes Hydnophora, Some Montipora varieties, birds nest, and some pavona corals. You will be able to keep these at the top of your tank, when it has matured at least 7 months. Make sure you stock your tank lightly, as far as fish comes.

But, for the most part, looks like you're off to a great start! :) How is your water quality coming along?

PH =)

A nice leather might be a good coral to start with.

leathers can be good top start with, but do research as they do like good mature tanks. I ill would go with polyps and mushrooms, for a lps I would go with a open brain!~ :D

PH the water quality is coming along, 0 Nitrite & ammonia PH 8.2, but the Nitrate is really high 50+. I just wanted to let everyone know that Jeff's exotic fish has some really good prices. I bought a calcium reactor the other day for $580, which includes the reactor, media ARM, American Monitor PH control, Co2 Bottle. Pretty much everything you need to get started. I am looking to set up the calcium reactor some time this week.
