I had emailed GE and I asked them if there was any difference between the GE 1 and aquarium silicone and they had told me that there was no difference between the two. If u use DAP or GE 2 they have fungisides in them that will leach into your tank. The GE 1 dose not have that in. I purchased my GE 1 from a local hardware store.

You can check out HomeDepot.com or lowes.com , but unless no one had it where I lived I probably wouldn't want to pay $8 shipping for $2 worth of silicone. You might check Wallyworld too. They have just about everything.

You can go to any local hardware store and purchase this silicone. For about 3 to 4 dollars.

any silicon will prob work just make sure it says non-toxic, plus holding water is not an issue all scilicon is made to stop leaks/ hold water

I bought GE Silicone I Kitchen & Bath (Clear).

Is this the silicone to use or is GE Silicone I Window & Door Clear the one you are referring to?

there is also GE Silicone II Kitchen & Bath Clear which is apparently out of the picture.

So, does it matter if Kitchen and Bath is used instead of Window and Door? I'd assume Kithen and Bath is the one to use. Due to the curing properties, they are definitely not iddentical.

I can't find a "GE 1 silicone" product without other attachments to it's name.

Thanks,
Karl Herman

HD also carries an aquarium Safe 100% silicone sealant made by DAP
Funny enough it is call "DAP Aquarium Sealant 100% Silicone" I got a 2.8 oz tube for just under $3. I fount it in the front of the Paint Section, next to the super glue and other smallish items

Hope this is helpful :D

I was at the store yesterday. GE makes about 50 different kinds of 100% silicone. Read the backs....out of all those, only about 2 didn't say not to use them for aquariums (although they didn't say to do it either). The others all said something like "NOT FOR: applications requiring FDA approval, aquariums."

The two I think we would be interested in are the GE 1 Window and Door Clear, and GE 1 'something else' (kitchen and bath maybe).

Anyhow, it's real cheap. Something like $3.00 US for a big tube you put in a caulk gun.
