i have a 90 gal reef tank with tangs, damsels, mandrian, scooter blennys, dottyback, cowfish. i also have peperment shrimp, blood shrimp and coral banded shrimp, a few corals ,snails hermits.

i found out that my regal tang has ich, the store i went to sold me this treatment to put in the tank called kick-ich made by ruby reef, because it is safe for reef tanks. i have a protien skimmer and uv lights that i turned off. this treatment will take about 10 days to treat. my question is should i leave off the skimmer and uv light for 10 days or will i start to have problems? the store also sold me 2 neon gobys to help with the problem.

this is my first problem and i am new to this hobby.

i personally am not an advocate for using medicine at all. and if i were to use medicine, it would be a last resort, and it would be added in a q-tank, not my main tank. just my .02¢

Ways to treat ich I now:
1)raise the temperature between 80-84 degrees ich has a hard time curviving above 80 degrees
2)feed your fish food soaked in garlic]
3)read the medicine bottle you are using it may be safe for some reef inhabitents but that dpesn't mean all, some inhabitents are very taken to water quality. Chances are it has something in it you don't want in your tank. If it is something you dip your food in then it is just garlic and go ahead and use it if not the choice is up to you but i9t may affect your abiltity to keep anenomes, cukes, clams and many othjer inverts

Hope this helped 8)

Not sure, but would cleaner shrimp help? Dont they clean off parasites or are they more of a preventitive thing, also I dont even know how ich works in saltewater but in fresh water isint it caused by stress so couldn't it be even worse to stop using a light? I dont know Alot about ich is it even a parasite that cleaner shrimp could prevent?
