What type of live rock is the best? I would like some live rock that is light weight, branchy, allows for good water flow, has a good growth of coralline algae and not much else.

ffexpress.com has some Tonga ridge rock that looks very affordable.

There is different kinds of rock, and all have their own carectoristic. For instance, tonga is a branching form of rock, usually light weight, but lacking in lots of life. Fiji rock is usually round, heavy, with lots of life. Marshal Island you will usually find this like a plate, with some forms of life. I try to get a mixture of rock in the tank, and eventually the life will spread throughout the entire rock structure.

I think it is a matter of what looks good to you. Rock that is fresh, will typically have a lot of life on it. It is tough to mailorder from some places. The rock just doesn't look like the pictures on the web sights. For a branchy rock, Tonga is good, but as Pineapple House stated, the coralline isn't usually abundant. Fiji usually has the best coverage, but isn't very branchy. Marshall can be quite open and airy, but the Marshall I've seen lately doesn't seem to be encrusted very well. If I was in the market for new rock, I would call Jason at Premium Aquatics or Dr. Mac and Son. This is just my opinion. :)

I'm not trying to offend my LFS. They are good people, but they just don't treat their rock the way it should be. I used to get good rock in Champaign IL some years ago, but things have changed. I have wanted to add a few pieces lately, but just can't find anything I like here in Central IL. I will follow this thread to see where you guys recommend to buy online. Oh, and I hate paying 8$ a pound for trash rock.
