I wouldn't concern myself with a few micro bubbles, but if your getting lots...something needs to be done. They can irritate your corals as well as be ingested by your fish and corals. I can see how it might damage the rocks, slightly, but it would be in the same manner as the fish and corals.

I like my Prizm skimmer. Try turning down the flow. Are you getting a dry foam in the collection cup or a brown water?

this thing isn't pulling out crap. I mean, not a single little thing at all. Full flow, or limited. It is producing bubbles like mad, but no waste is generated. Another thing, it is LOUD...very nerve wrecking.

ordering online really sucks...i just sent it back (WAS LEAKING!!!). And guess what? I have to eat the shipping costs....20 bucks to find out that a $70 item isn't worth a crap.
I am glad it works for some, but I will not buy a single thing again without asking here first. This really bites....

I run an AquaMedic turboflotor skimmer... I produce plenty of brown liquid but certainly not dry foam.
Given that I have a new tank that is lightly stocked... how/when/should I be getting dry foam? input appreciated.
Cheers

I run a prizm with much more success than Lahatiel. Instructions on these says to put it together and check for leaks in the sink before putting on your tank. The chambers are sealed using o-rings which need to be wetted before assembly. Assembling with dry o-rings can cause the unit to leak. It is producing a tea colored (very stinky) liquid and returns NO bubbles to the tank. It may not be the best skimmer for a novice since it requires a little tweaking to get it working efficiently. Hope you have better luck with a more expensive unit.

didn't leak when I tested it out hanging on a bucket of fresh water, two hours later though, it did.... :x
maybe I just received a defective unit. Think I wil continue skimmerless for a while and maybe look into one of those remoras if I feel I have to have one in the future.

I have a Prism skimmer on my 20 gallon and it works great. It did put out quite a few microbubbles for the first week, but after it broke in no more bubbles.

Sorry to hear about your prizm Lahateil. If you read the instructions it also says that the way to get it skimming correctly is to stop the air and adjust the water level to just under the O-ring at the collection cup. I had problems with adjusting mine until I did this. I feel that it is a great skimmer and sorry that you disagree. Good luck in the future!
