I have access to metal halide bulbs and ballasts, and was wondering if i can use them for my tank, The bulbs are off the shelf sylvania, and i am not sure of the kelvin temp. are these suitable? please let me know what you think. as i am hoping to save a large sum of cash here.

also the bulbs come in 2 base styles for the 175 watts, the standard light size and a larger base. wich one is better? ( i have an 86gal with a 13" high canopy)

Where arer you getting these from?

If they are from a LIghting supply place or Home Depot they are not Aquatic MH bulbs. Those are parking lot MH bulbs. :?
