View Full Version : Who uses a grounding probe?
I've used a grounding probe for quite some time now. Once I started seeing sparks coming from my underwater heater I decided to replace the heater and get a grounding probe.

After getting zapped by a powerhead I swear by them. Also GFCI's.
Reefer504,
whats GFCI?
Also, for anyone in the "Whats a grounding probe" category, its a metal rod (make sure its titanium) placed in the water which reduces or eliminates any electrical current that could be given off by a faulty pump, heater, etc...
kind of like the lightning rod on a tall building.

yup def grounding probe and GFI ( gfi is a ground protection outlet same as what is used in your bathroom and kitchens , trips the cirucuit off in millaseconds so u don't get electrocuted if your hand is in the water and lets say u drop a small desk light in the tank at same time

Purchasing a grounding rod and installing a GFCI circuit should be the first two prerequisites prior to purchasing a tank.
