View Full Version : What fish do you have in your reef?

Just curious. Seems alot of the discussion here is on corals and setups. I have a Cherub angel in my 30. Small TR Tomato clown in my 10. I know, she will be moved to larger quarters soon. Oh, and by the way, I was at a store in a neighboring town last week. They had a tank raised yellow tang. I wasn't aware that tangs were being bred in captivity. Anyone?
I have a Orchid Dottyback, False Perc and Coral Beauty in my 40 gallon reef. They'll all be moving to an 80 gallon soon.
I've heard of taking fish from the time they're babies and raising them in tanks which may explain the term "tank raised". This may explain things but the term is used widely with little thought to the specifics so who knows. I doubt the LFS owner actually knows if its tank raised or tank bred.
Then again, new species are being captive bred all the time

I have a pair of yellow tangs in a 240 that is divided in half yet share the same water. I've had these two for quite a few years. I started out with 5 and lost 3 within weeks and decided thats it ! But as the years have gone by and these two are still with me I'm getting brave again. I'm in the process of starting up a 150 reef that I'm going to give to them. Pamela

I have 2 false percs, 1 lawnmower blennie and a leopard wrasse in my 55. The 75 is void of fish, as I don't know exactly which direction I'm going to go with that tank.

I have a pair of ocelaris clowns, a strawberry basslet and a yellow tail demon(damsel) in my 75. Don't have fish in the other tanks.
Pamela, I'm wondering how your tangs get along being kept in the same tank. If I understood correctly the two tangs are kept together in the same water or are they in the same water but divided on seperate parts of the tank?
Most people recommend not keeping multiple tangs in the same tank however 240 gallons should be plenty of room for 2 tangs. I used to have 2 tangs in the same 80 gallon tank and they got along fine. One was a hippo but I can't remember what the other one was, its been so long. It was kinda of whiteish yellow in the front fading to brown in the back.
Pineapple House, Is your blue tang a hippo tang? aka regal tang?
I used to have on of those at about 8" and boy could that guy eat. The funniest part was when it came ou tthe other end.... ah memories...

Hi Big E, they are both togather and have been for about 6 or 7 years. The tank is an old commerical one that while its divided the same water flows thru holes in the divider. I just always figured they didn' know they weren't supposed to get a long! Really I guess it just worked out cause I went with 5 in the beginning for that reason.

Ok...ok...it might not be the best pic, but it shows basicly what it looks like. When you really see it, it has that amazing florcent blue glow to it. In the pic there, you can see the tang, cleaner shrimp, bubble coral, zooanthid polyps all if you look kind of close :-)

I have a killer reef. Which includes:
100g
popupine puffer (7")
blue tang (6")
yellow tang (4")
Gold Stripe Maroon (3")
3 cleaner
3 peppermint
The puffer is my favorite because it gets along so well with the cleaner shrimp.

MG greg! That's exelent work! Very beautiful indeed! Is he being kept with any females in the same tank?
PH =)
gregr
11-17-2002, 11:28 AM
nope- no females and all the other fish are neutral towards him so i guess i won't be seeing much flashing.
there would be room for one more small fish like that though so i guess if i found one that was a female i could add it and see if they paired up. but maybe they'd fight and i don't want to do that to them. anyone have any experience with them in terms of pairing up?

It's a good biological load as it is.
I would be worried about that Manderine if it isn't currently accepting any prepared foods (Brine, Mysid Shrimp, Blood worms, etc.). Manderines will feed of pods (Copepods, Amphipods, Isopods, etc.), which are hitchhikers from the live rock which will reproduce. In the aquarium, many are eaten up by fish and inveribrates, therefor there are not enough pods to fully keep a manderine thriving. Despite its small size, they will eat...and a lot of it!
How's it doing? Is it eating any prepared foods?

Love Anthias....I have 4 in my reef along with a group of green chromis, a pair of true percs, 1 purple tang, 1 flame hawk and some wrasses (including my prized leopard wrasse!!!).

leopard wrasses are the coolest- i got one a few weeks ago. one of the main reasons i love this fish is his attitude- doesn't act aggressive towards anything in the tank (except food :P ).

Big mature Yellow Tang
two suprisingly-well-behaved Yellow tailed Damsels
A new addition - Pyjama Wrasse.
Maroon Clown.
Does anyone have experience with these Wrasses? I am very pleased by the way s/he sinously curls in and out of the live rock formations. Very active and startling pretty - in an understated sort of way.
