ok....I posted a question a few days ago about this thing I found that I thought might be a fire or bristol worm.

By the picture, you can only see part of his body. What I can't seem to catch on camera is the fact that it seems to have several legs. It almost appears to either have several legs (if it is a serpent star), or there are at least a few hanging around(if it is a fire worm).

I was looking through "inverterbrates" by Julian Sprung Page 218 and this Black serpent star, Black brittle star looks an awful lot like what is in my tank, only I can't see the body. Only the "arms"

What do you think? has anybody had one of these guys in there tank? Below is the original picture that I took, and then a picture of on one in the book. Let me know what you think.

I'd definately say you have a brittle star there. The arm tapers from a point getting wider as it reaches the body. I have one in my 27g, I find them alot more reclusive than the green ones.

You might be able to coax it out after lights out with a piece of raw shrimp or feeding pellets.

Cheers

Now that I see it, it is starting to look like a Black Serpent, really for the fact that it slowely narrows down to the tip, and also you see other little legs. I would take a pair of tweezers, and try to pick it up if you can to get a good look at it.

Brittle stars are a great addition to the tank and are relatively easy to keep.

If you can get a close look at it, and see some translucent white tubelike feet moving among the spines, then you'll know it's a brittle star. Your picture of the "worm" sure looks like a brittle star arm to me. I vote not to worry about it.

If you try to pull it out, you'll learn why they're called "brittle" stars.
